Evan and I operated with John N7NWL as N7T in the 2022 AZQP and won the Multi-Op Expedition category. John wasn’t able to participate again in 2023, but Evan and I wanted to make an attempt to repeat/defend our title. Evan KK7MGL, Marcia K7AZM, and myself, Virgil K7VZ, teamed up with James N7ELL and Randy K7NNT to form the 2023 team. To remain in the Multi-Op Expedition category, we began looking at counties that were not activated in 2022. That landed us in a VRBO rental house just north of Parker, AZ in La Paz county. We registered 1×1 callsign K7E.
We drove over to Parker and setup the antennas on Friday morning. Plans were to operate 2 radios, Evan’s Icom IC-7300 for the SSB station and James’ Yaesu FT-991A for the CW station. We mounted my 20ft. mast to the fence in the back yard which had the Buddipole antenna on top for 20m, 15m, and 10m operation. A 40m EFHW antenna was strung over the north side above the carport at approximately 25ft above ground. James setup a vertical mast from DX Engineering in the front yard with cut vertical wires to operate the CW station.
